Yangjiang City is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Guangdong Province, also known as Yangjiang City and Yangjiang City. It is located on the southwest coast of Guangdong, straddling the center of western Guangdong. It is surrounded by mountains in the east, west and north, and borders the South China Sea in the south. It has a subtropical monsoon climate, with a land area of 7966.8 square kilometers and a sea area of 12,300 square kilometers. It is a famous coastal tourist city and a major ocean city in Guangdong Province; it is a member of the urban area on the west bank of the Pearl River Estuary and the Beibu Gulf urban agglomeration. As of February 2025, Yangjiang City has jurisdiction over 2 districts, 1 county, and 1 county-level city. As of the end of 2024, Yangjiang City has a permanent population of 2.6266 million. Yangjiang City is backed by mountains and faces the sea, with diverse landforms (mountains, seas, springs, lakes, forests, and caves), and a port coastline of 39.1 kilometers. In the 18th year of Emperor Kaihuang's reign in the Sui Dynasty, Yangjiang County was newly established in present-day Yangjiang, which was the beginning of the name of Yangjiang County. In the 6th year of Tongzhi in the Qing Dynasty, it was renamed Yangjiang Zhili Prefecture; in February 1988, the county was removed and a city was established. Yangjiang is one of the birthplaces of Gaoliang culture, integrating Maritime Silk Road culture, Moyang culture, and Guangfu culture. It has cultural resources such as ancient villages, ancient ports, and the "Nanhai No. 1" Song Dynasty shipwreck museum.
